Yogamaharshi Dr. med. Swami Gitananda Giri,
“Father of the Scientific Yoga”

Dr. med. Swami Gitananda Giri in jüngeren Jahren Dr. Swami Gitananda, taught Yoga on an academic basis with a close medical association. He was a highly respected Yoga authority in the 20th century. He was endowed with the unique ability to transfer the age-old abstract knowledge into modern terms and thus to make it understandable for today's people. He is called the 'Father of the Scientific Yoga'. Dr. Swami Gitananda taught Yoga for more than 60 years and has trained thousands of highly qualified Yoga teachers. He is the author of more than fifty books on Yoga and connected subjects. His most famous work for people interested in Yoga but living abroad is the correspondence course 'Yoga Step-By-Step' which serves as a preparation for the education as a Yoga teacher. A monthly journal called 'Yoga Life' has been published since 1970. Dr. Swami Gitananda attained Samadhi on December 29th, 1993, at the age of 87. His wife Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani and his son, the medical doctor Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani carry on with his tradition.
